Leadership Level: 1

Purpose: To maintain accurate records for the church membership for vital business matters.
Requirements: The church clerk must be a committed Christ follower and a voting member of Heritage Baptist Church. The clerk needs to be an organized person with approximately 5-7 hours per month to do record-keeping.

Responsibilities: The tasks completed by the clerk/secretary are varied, but all matters that require accurate record keeping.

• Maintain a list of the current voting membership for use in business including notation of all officers.
  Take accurate minutes (per Roberts’ Rule of Orders) at all business meetings. Minutes must include a roll call of the present membership and the standard information.
• Maintain the records of the deacons’ meeting minutes. The secretary of the deacons’ board will provide copies of the minutes to the clerk.
• Work with the treasurer to provide annual giving statements to all individuals and corporations who make donations to the church. Letters will be provided to the contributors no later than February 15 of the new year.

Commitment: 1 year; present at all quarterly, annual and special business meetings.

Leadership Level: 2

Purpose: Make sure that nursery volunteers are properly scheduled and resourced for the 1^st Day worship gatherings.  Coordinate necessary training and procedures to provide a safe, child-friendly environment for ages 0-3 [2's-3's will have a separate teacher during the worship time.]

Requirements: The members of the decoration committee must be committed Christ followers.  He/she must be faithful to our worship gatherings and an echo group.  First Aid/CPR certification is preferable.

Oversight: Nursery volunteers.

Accountability: The early childhood director will report to the children’s ministry director.

Commitment: Long term.

Leadership Level: 3

Purpose: The Student Pastor position exists to open doors for high school and college age to encounter Jesus and journey together in faith through the transitions inherent to their stage of life. Providing pastoral care for this age group requires an unparalleled commitment to the students and their growth.

Resources: This is currently a volunteer position with the potential for becoming a paid staff position. The Student Pastor will have ready access to the pastor and leadership as needed. He will prepare annual budgets and resource plans to the leadership so resources can be allocated adequately.

Accountability: The Student Pastor will meet regularly with the pastor as part of the regular staff meetings but will be supervised by the pastor directly with high expectations. The pastor will conduct quarterly evaluations with the student pastor for the purposes of encouragement and challenge.

Requirements: The Student Pastor is part of the leadership of the church. He is required to be an active, fully-devoted follower of Jesus Christ. He must be faithful to the worship gatherings and the ministries of the church. His small group will be the high school/college group(s).

He will be required to be a creative, out-of-the-box thinker who will engage this incredibly important age group with the vision of the church. Because of the pastoral role of this position, the Student Pastor must not only understand but fully embrace the vision of this church.

This is an extremely demanding position. It will require at least 10 hours of time in addition to worship gatherings and group meetings.

Oversight: The Student Pastor will oversee the ministries designed to engage High School and College Age members of the church. He may recruit volunteers as necessary. The Student Pastor will be responsible for presentation and disposition of the youth budget during the year upon approval by the board.

Leadership Level: 3

Purpose: Evaluate the messages and series and put together effective musical arrangements that direct the gathering into worship, through song as well as other human elements.

Accountability: The creative arts director will report to the worship leader and will meet with him/her regularly to ensure a unity across the worship gathering ministries.

Requirements: The creative arts director must be a committed Christ follower and a voting member of the church. He/she must be faithful to our worship gatherings and an echo group.

He/she will need to contribute around ten (10) hours per week in planning, rehearsals, and meetings.

He/she must be creative and thoughtful in preparing a variety of presentations that complement the message and lead people. This should be coupled with the critical thinking skills necessary to evaluate the effectiveness of the creative arts ministry and make adjustments as necessary.

He/she may be a musician who plays in the band, but this is not necessarily a qualification.

Oversight: The music director will oversee the activities of:

• The Worship Band
• The Special/Choral Coordinator
• Drama/Skvids Providers

He/she will facilitate regular times of devotion and prayer in preparation for worship gatherings.

Commitment: 1 yr.

Leadership Level: 1

Purpose: To lead a 30-45 minute informal discussion of the Sunday message.

Resources: The break-out leaders will be provided with a copy of the message and a list of 2-5 questions directly relating to the message content.

Requirements: Leaders must be committed Christ followers and able to carry on a conversation.  He/she must be faithful to our worship gatherings as well as a small group.  Leaders must be at the worship gathering before 9:00 AM and be able to stay until 12:00 PM faithfully.

Accountability: The Break Out Coordinator will meet monthly with the break out leaders and periodically the coordinator and leaders will meet together with the pastor.

Commitment: 3-6 months

Leadership Level: 2

Purpose: To ensure that break out leaders honor their commitment to lead their groups by being faithful to services and coming prepared for their sessions. Break-out coordinator will work with the pastor and worship leader to create the 2-5 discussion questions for the session leaders.  The break-out coordinator will seek and oversee volunteers necessary to complete the task.

Resources: The break-out coordinator will receive copies of the messages at least four weeks in advance and work with the pastor and worship leader to create effective discussion questions for the break-out groups.

Requirements: Coordinator must be a committed Christ follower and preferably a member of HBC.  He/she must be faithful to our worship gatherings and an echo group - embracing the vision of our ministry and gifted to lead a small group of other leaders.

He/she must be at the worship gathering before 9:00 AM and be able to stay until 12:00 PM faithfully.  Additionally, he/she will be expected to spend at least two (2) hours a week preparing materials and meeting with break out leaders in preparation for the 1^st Day gatherings.

Accountability: The Break Out Coordinator will be responsible to and meet with the worship leader as each series of messages warrants.

Commitment: 1 year minimum

Purpose: Provide a children’s environment that includes care, interaction with parents, and connection with God’s Word while being fun and engaging for the children.

Requirements: A children’s ministry volunteer must be a committed Christ follower. He/she must be faithful to our worship gatherings and an echo group.

Actual requirements vary according to ministry. 2’s and 3’s teacher must be able to engage his/her class for the time period and work with the early childhood director to coordinate space. Other volunteers might be involved in games, crafts or teaching during the children’s church time.

Accountability: Children’s Ministry Volunteers will report to the children’s ministry director.

Commitment: 9 months (the school year)

Leadership Level: 1

Purpose: Set the environmental tone of the worship space by decorating according to season and/or series of messages.

Requirements: The members of the decoration committee must be committed Christ followers.  He/she must be faithful to our worship gatherings and an echo group.

The decoration scheme should vary at least four (4) times per year, and within reason the committee is authorized to expend the decoration budget.  Large purchases will be authorized with the consent of the pastor.

Accountability: The decoration committee will be overseen by the Presentation Director.

Commitment: 1 yr.

Leadership Level: 2

Purpose: Ensure that the property is in good repair and meets an exceptional standard of cleanliness. The maintenance director will seek and oversee volunteers necessary to complete the task.

This will entail preparing cleaning guidelines, scheduling people to clean the building, and making sure the tasks are handled properly.

Accountability: The maintenance manager will meet regularly with the presentation director and will be accountable to him.

Requirements: The maintenance manager must be a committed Christ follower and preferably a member of HBC. He/she must be faithful to our worship gatherings and an echo group and demonstrate faithfulness in “behind-the-scenes” ministry.

Commitment: 1 yr minimum, long-term.

Leadership Level: 3

Purpose: The worship leader is responsible for working with the pastor to coordinate the entire 1^st Day worship gathering. This involves coordinating the work of multiple ministry teams to create an environment of worship and excellence.

Resources: This is currently a volunteer position, but has the potential of becoming a paid position. The pastor will provide a basic annual schedule of messages as well as manuscripts of the sermons at least four weeks in advance.

Accountability: The worship leader will meet regularly with the pastor as part of the regular staff meetings but will be supervised by the senior pastor directly with high expectations. The pastor will conduct quarterly evaluations with the worship leader for the purposes of encouragement and challenge.

Oversight: The worship leader will oversee the activities of the 1^st Day worship gathering:

• Presentations director, who deals with the visual look of the space including decorations and maintenance.
• Children’s coordinator, who makes sure the children’s church ministry is in sync with the adult service.
• Arts director, who will work to provide worship music, “special music” and skits/skvids/interviews (as well as any other creative element) for the worship service
• Technical A/V team, which will provide sound reinforcement and operate any digital visuals provided by the presentations team/media specialists.

The worship leader will oversee the budget for the 1^st Day ministries, working with individual ministry leaders to plan and present budget items to the senior pastor. Within reason, the worship leader will have the authority to expend budgeted amounts for the execution of the ministry.

Requirements: The worship leader must be a committed Christ follower and a voting member of HBC. Candidates must meet the requirements of an elder as outlined in Scripture.

He/she must be faithful to our worship gatherings and an echo group - embracing the vision of our ministry and gifted to lead a small group of other leaders.

This is a very demanding position, requiring the individual to commit around ten (10) hours per week in planning and meeting in a volunteer capacity.
